In September 2017, when Adriana was just a few months old, she was diagnosed with a non-cancerous tumor and Scoliosis. The curvature of her spine has tremendous effect on her growth and ability to breath. She spent 6 weeks at the ICU on a ventilator and drugs withdrawal.

The oncology doctor opted not to do surgery on Adriana due to high risk but was able get her on a trial treatment. She was the youngest patient in the study at BC Children’s Hospital. Adriana completed this trial treatment in 4.5 years and has been stable since. Then, she had a halo traction to help straighten her spine and after that, a rod placement surgery. Adriana has to return to BC Children’s Hospital for rod extension every 2-3 months.

Adriana is now 6 years old, she is a curious and vibrant little girl and started Grade 1 in September.
